Security Management Courses

When you earn your bachelor's degree in Business Administration (BA) with a specialization in Security Management, your curriculum may include these career-enhancing courses:

  • Risk Analysis, Loss Prevention and Emergency Planning - Through security surveys and audits, this course examines the nature of security threats as well as analytical approaches to assessing risk of intrusion and loss of assets. Using real-life case examples, students learn to plan for emergency interventions, including managing detection, delay, and response measures.
  • Security Administration - Through case studies, simulations and field observations, students in this security administration course learn to manage individuals and organizations engaged in security administration; communicate and interact with people and systems being secured; and develop reports for planning, evaluation, and forensics. Security administration topics include complying with regulations, following identification and verification protocols, securing information systems, and addressing emergency threats and related safety functions.
  • Physical Security and Access Control - Introducing a systematic model of physical security, focusing on detection, delay, response, threats, and targets of intruders, this course addresses facility and environmental architecture, physical security methods, electronic sensor devices, closed circuit television, locks, biometrics, guard forces, and the government public safety infrastructure.
  • Evaluation of Security Programs - To determine the effectiveness of security management programs, students in this course evaluate programmatic protection objectives against industry standards, practices, and methods in the context of security requirements. Quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques are applied to reveal capabilities and vulnerabilities.
  • Principles of Information Systems Security - Providing a broad overview of information systems security in organizations, including security issues surrounding the computer and computer-generated data, this course covers security concepts and mechanisms; mandatory and discretionary controls; basic cryptography and its applications; intrusion detection and prevention; information systems assurance; and anonymity and privacy.

Security Management Course Requirements

To earn a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration at DeVry with a specialization in Security Management, you'll be required to complete 8 full-time semesters or 124 credit hours:

  • 94 credit hours (about 30 courses) in your core curriculum
  • 30 credit hours (about 8 courses) specific to the security management specialization

Although a few courses are worth 1 or 2 credit hours, most are equal to 3 or 4 credit hours. Here's the course load you will carry, depending on whether you attend DeVry as a full- or part-time student:

  • Full-time student schedule = 15 credit hours (4 to 5 courses) per semester
  • Part-time student schedule = 1 to 14 credit hours (1 to 4 courses) per semester
