When you earn your bachelor's degree in Business Administration (BA) with a specialization in Business Information Systems, your curriculum may include these career-enhancing business information systems courses :

  • Requirements Gathering and Testing - In exploring the systems development life cycle (SDLC), students in this course apply techniques for developing comprehensive system requirements, including planning and coordinating a comprehensive testing process and evaluating test results.
  • Object-Oriented Programming for Business - Covering basic object-oriented programming principles and programming languages, this course addresses how various system architectures, programming, and database technologies combine to form a system. Students analyze a business problem and recommend a system to address the related business needs.
  • Principles of Web Development - This course focuses on web page design from the perspective of the business manager. Sufficient technical knowledge is developed to facilitate effective communication with information technology (IT) professionals such as webmasters and network administrators.
  • Systems Implementation and Training - This course focuses on implementing systems and managing change in large and small organizations. Students learn to perform needs analysis, develop training and implementation plans to ensure that initiatives are effectively introduced, design training materials, and conduct a training session with e-learning technologies.
  • Business Intelligence and Data Analysis - Using an enterprise-level database management system, students in this course learn to design and implement a simple data warehouse, organize, analyze and present data using data analysis and report-writing tools, and make business decisions based on such data.

Business Information Systems Course Requirements

To earn a bachelor's degree in Business Administration at DeVry with a specialization in Business Information Systems, you'll be required to complete 8 full-time semesters or 124 credit hours:

  • 94 credit hours (about 30 courses) in your core curriculum
  • 30 credit hours (about 8 courses) specific to the business information systems specialization

Although a few business information systems courses are worth 1 or 2 credit hours, most are equal to 3 or 4 credit hours. Here's the business information systems course load you will carry, depending on whether you attend DeVry as a full- or part-time student:

  • Full-time student schedule = 15 credit hours (4 to 5 courses) per semester
  • Part-time student schedule = 1 to 14 credit hours (1 to 4 courses) per semester
