Support services for international students.
Student life is a big part of the DeVry experience. If you're wondering about international student academic support, living arrangements and extracurricular opportunities, the following information should help. If you still have questions, an admissions representative can provide you with more information on all these areas.
Academic support/tutoring.
Academic counseling is available to all DeVry students and is provided on the Calgary campus during specified hours. Once you are enrolled at DeVry Calgary, your academic advisor can provide you with specific information on where and when to obtain tutoring.
Housing assistance.
DeVry's New Student and Career Services Centre (NSCSC) offers several housing options:
- Private apartments. The NSCSC maintains a list of available apartments in the school's vicinity. A security deposit, equal to the first month's rent, is generally required in advance to secure an apartment. A rental or credit history may also be required. Leasing terms are established between apartment complexes/owners and students.
- Student plan housing. This shared-living option provides convenient, affordable housing during early terms. Students must submit a reservation fee and form to the campus to reserve a furnished, shared apartment. All subsequent housing fees are paid to DeVry.
- Private rooms. The NSCSC maintains a list of available private rooms in private residences. Accommodations vary. Leasing terms are established between property owners and students.
- Homestay program. To experience the culture in a safe and secure environment, students may apply to live with a local Calgary-area family through the Homestay program. Learn more about this program on the Preparing to Study Abroad page.
Additional information, including approximate housing costs, is available in the housing information packet or from the NSCSC. Students who need help locating housing or who have problems related to living arrangements should contact the NSCSC. DeVry Calgary has no dormitory facilities under its control. DeVry is committed to a policy of nondiscrimination in housing, and all housing to which students are referred complies with this policy.
Student activities.
DeVry Calgary offers a wide range of activities and organizations in which students can participate. Professional organizations include IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), the leading national organization for electronics technology professionals and students; AITP (Association of Information Technology Professionals), for those interested in computer and data processing careers; ISA (Instrument Society of America), for engineering and science professionals and students; and several professional fraternities.
In addition, several curriculum-related organizations, such as computer and ham radio clubs, are offered, as are student-produced newspapers and special interest groups in such areas as chess, martial arts and photography. A variety of intramural sports and field trip activities are also available.
Clubs and activities reflect students' interests and may change periodically. Questions concerning student activities can be addressed to the Dean of Students.
